The performance “Sebastian.” tells the story of several key moments from the (all too short) life of Mihail Sebastian. August 23, 1944: a reading and a bombing. October 18, 1944: his last birthday, more readings, and solitude. May 29, 1945: an ending that leaves behind an unfinished text, a journal, unfulfilled and unconsummated relationships, and longing. “Sebastian.” is about friendship and war, about love and fanaticism, about fragility and violence, about the intellectual petty bourgeoisie and loneliness, about political and personal excess. “Sebastian.” is about the absurdity of life.
Sebastian’s island is made up of searches, objects, a typewriter, thoughts, and Scarlat Froda, actors and actresses, loves and Zoe Ricci, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Marietta Sadova, gossip and philosophy, Leni Caler and Camil Petrescu, legionaries and communists, George Vraca, war and theatre.
