Meetings and classes with great artists - Javier Martos
Granada Flamenco Ballet, Spain
Javier Martos
From the age of nine, Martos has been receiving extensive artistical training, not only as flamenco dancer, but also as classic ballet dancer, Spanish dance, and bolero school in Catalonia, where he also finished his formation with renowned masters as, for example, Juan Carlos Lérida. His working experience has been shaped in ballets and spectacles in the Canary Islands, and as a dancer in Japan’s Shima Spain Village, where he started a long task as choreographer of the show ‘Sueño Flamenco’.
From that very moment, he carried out many types of artistic collaborations which took him to visit diverse countries like Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Guatemala, or El Salvador, not to mention many national stages. At the same time, he continued his artistic training with Antonio Canales, Rafaela Carrasco, Mercedes Ruiz, and Manuel Liñán, among others. Moreover, since his arrival to Granada he started being part of the Tablao Albayzín, where he shared stage with well-known artists such as Fuensanta La Moneta or Patricia Guerrero.
His artistic restlessness brought him to divide time between his two passions, flamenco dancing and teaching, in Carmen de las Cuevas’ School in Granada, as well as around the world: China, Estonia, Hong Kong, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan or Ukraine. Following this path and looking for a higher degree of sustainability and visibility, Martos tends to selflessly offer workshops, and masterclasses while performing with Granada Flamenco Ballet.
With all his professional work and teaching background, Javier Martos created Granada Flamenco Ballet with a cast of 25 artists, touring Asia for the first time with the show ‘Carmen’, as director, choreographer (along Javier Latorre), and first dancer (along Raimundo Benítez). They toured China again in 2018 and 2019, where they conquered the finest theatres in the country (Pekin’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, Shanghai’s Grand Theatre, Chongqing’s Grand Theatre), apart from touring France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and Spain.
Granada Flamenco Ballet has premiered‘Dance for Me’, its most ambitious show, a major work dedicated to Granada, in the splendid Latvia’s Cēsis Concert Hall thanks to Flamenco Agency. Furthermore, Javier Martos solitarily presented ‘Quimera’, a minimalist show where he featured Sergio Gómez “el Colorao”, and Marcos “Palometas”. The company has also premièred “El Fantasma” based on The Phantom of the Opera. Nowadays, Granada Flamenco Ballet are distributed worldwide by Flamenco Agency.
