Milo Rau in Conversation with Film Critic Ion Indolean at the Screening of The New Gospel

Director Milo Rau will be present on Friday, 26 June, starting at 6:00 p.m., at Promenada Sibiu for the screening of his film The New Gospel.

The screening will be preceded by a conversation between Milo Rau and film critic Ion Indolean.

In southern Italy, on the edge of the European Union, where African refugees are exploited as agricultural workers and forced to live in inhumane conditions, director Milo Rau creates a unique film that blurs the line between documentary and fiction. Together with political activist Yvan Sagnet, who portrays Jesus, the film presents a contemporary Gospel inspired by the real struggle for migrants' rights and the Revolt of Dignity movement.

Set in Matera, the iconic location of biblical films by Pier Paolo Pasolini and Mel Gibson, the production brings together refugees, activists, farmers and professional actors to re-enact the Passion of Christ in a contemporary political context. In doing so, the Christian myth is transformed into a powerful manifesto for solidarity, freedom and social justice.
