38 Theatre, Music, Dance and Circus Performances Available Online During the Sibiu International Theatre Festival
The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), one of the world's largest and most important performing arts festivals, continues to bring an outstanding selection of performances to audiences around the globe through its FITSonline programme.
This year, 38 performances will be available online for theatre and performing arts lovers in Romania and abroad. Viewers can access the programme by purchasing individual tickets priced at 30 RON each or a 400 RON subscription that provides access to all online performances. Each event will remain available for up to 24 hours from its scheduled screening time.
“Ever since we launched the Digital Stage in 2020, we have strongly believed in the online dimension of FITS, and every year we have worked to expand the number of performances available to audiences around the world. FITS is not only for those who come to Sibiu or those living in Romania. Through FITSonline, we also reach audiences in the United States, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore and the Netherlands. Last year, people from more than 100 countries visited our website—people who appreciate the performances we present and enjoy this gift that we offer through tremendous effort,” said Constantin Chiriac, President of FITS.
This year's programme includes 15 theatre productions, 16 concerts, four dance performances and two contemporary circus productions. The complete online programme is available here.
The Story of the Naughty Princess Opens This Year's Online Programme
Silviu Purcărete's production The Story of the Naughty Princess will be available online from Friday, 19 June, at 4:00 p.m., for 24 hours.
Seven productions by the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre Sibiu are included in this year's online programme, among them Long Day's Journey into Night, winner of the 2025 UNITER Award for Best Performance, Jonah directed by Silviu Purcărete, Union Place directed by Cristian Ban, You Can't Feel It Here by Lia Bugnar, Beyond Forgetting directed by Cosmin Stănilă, and the theatre's latest premiere, Dictionary for Revolutions, directed by Alin Uberti.
Medea's Children by Milo Rau Available Online
One of the highlights of this year's FITS, Milo Rau's Medea's Children, will be streamed online on 27 June from 6:00 p.m.
With Medea's Children, the acclaimed director offers a profound new exploration of the role of children in theatre. The production is inspired by a real-life case involving a mother who, in a moment of utter despair, attempts to kill her children before taking her own life, but survives. This contemporary tragedy intertwines with the classical story of Medea, one of the most powerful portrayals of relational conflict and infanticide in Western literature.
Another highlight of this year's edition, Sex, Money and Hunger, directed by Luk Perceval, will be available online from Saturday, 20 June, at 4:00 p.m., for 24 hours.
Dance and Dance Theatre in This Year's Online Selection
Among the dance and dance-theatre productions featured online are Israel & Mohamed by Israel Galván and Mohamed El Khatib, Carmen and Dance for Me by Granada Flamenco Ballet, Boundless Beauty by the Beijing Dance Academy, and Infamous Offspring directed by Wim Vandekeybus.
Gospel, Fado, Guitar and Organ Concerts
This year's online music programme includes The Soul of Japan, The Fado That Connects Us, Fado for Everyone, and The Soul of Mexico.
Ten Days of FITS Talks with Writer Marius Chivu
Now an established tradition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, FITS Talks returns this year under the moderation of writer Marius Chivu. Audiences are invited to discover the visions, passions and personal stories of Romanian artists in an informal and welcoming setting. Each conversation concludes with a series of unexpected questions, offering a fresh perspective on the guests. The talks are streamed daily on the FITS Facebook page at 1:00 p.m. and remain available to watch free of charge on YouTube.
