The Festival Reaches Its Midpoint with Two Performances of the Major Winner of the 2026 UNITER Awards: Long Day's Journey into Night
The fifth day of the Festival began with a Special Conference featuring Wim Vandekeybus in conversation with Octavian Saiu about the performance The Successors of the Gods.

The following Special Conference brought together poet Miguel Gane and Ionuț Sociu on the occasion of the publication of Gane's poetry collection Blue. A significant part of the conversation focused on the experience of migration. Having moved to Spain as a child, Miguel Gane spoke about the challenges of integration and the discrimination and xenophobia that many Romanians living abroad experienced during those years.
As part of the online programme FITS Talks, writer Marius Chivu was in conversation with Adrian Matioc, actor of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre Sibiu. The recording is available on Facebook and YouTube.
Long Day's Journey into Night, directed by Timofei Kuliabin, a production of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre Sibiu and winner of two 2026 UNITER Awards—Best Performance and Best Leading Actor—was presented in two performances.
Inspired by the creative traditions of the city of Granada, Dance for Me had its Festival premiere at the "Ion Besoiu" Cultural Centre.
At Fabrica de Cultură, audiences attended Baal – Brecht's First Play, a compelling production exploring contemporary morality and the limits of acceptance.
I Am Still Here, a performance inspired by real-life stories of survival and identity, moved and amused audiences alike.
On Nicolae Bălcescu Pedestrian Street and in the Grand Square, military bands gathered in Sibiu for the first edition of the Military Bands Festival presented within FITS, offering a series of musical performances. The evening culminated in a special concert featuring all eight ensembles performing together under the baton of Colonel Aurel Gheorghiță in the Grand Square.
The day concluded with the Polish Season production Scattered Across the World, which captivated the audience.
Sibiu International Theatre Festival: 848 Events and 5,000 Artists from 83 Countries
The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), one of the world's largest and most important performing arts festivals, takes place this year from 19 to 28 June. The 33rd edition, held under the theme SOUL, features 848 events and welcomes more than 5,000 artists from 83 countries.
This year's theme – SOUL – highlights the idea that beyond technology lies the human soul, whether it belongs to the artist or the spectator.
