Climbing Heritage

The exhibition traces the journey of stone fragments discovered during the restoration of the Evangelical Cathedral in Sibiu and invites reflection on heritage as an ongoing process of transformation. Recovered from walls, floors, and basements, these objects bear the traces of ever-changing meanings. Designed as a route connecting Huet Square, the balcony of the Evangelical Cathedral, the Brukenthal National Museum, and m28form, the exhibition activates a network of spaces connected both physically and digitally. Each location becomes a distinct manifestation of heritage: archaeological discovery, restoration, reuse, reinterpretation, or replication. The exhibition program includes open workshops, guided tours, and public interventions that transform research and restoration into a visible process. The public can watch work on a funerary stone in real time, observe the gestures, errors, and decisions behind conservation, and participate in dialogues about memory, material, and collective responsibility.
In parallel, the digital component connects all spaces through live streams, building a network of images, processes, and micro-events unfolding simultaneously.

MODUL 28 is an architecture and heritage conservation practice founded in Sibiu in 2017. The office brings together an interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of architectural practice, historic preservation, research, and cultural production.

Its work includes restoration and conservation projects, including interventions within UNESCO heritage contexts, as well as cultural initiatives exploring how heritage can become accessible and relevant to contemporary audiences. The practice combines architecture with research, installation, visual documentation, scenography, and participatory formats.

Through its independent cultural space, m28form, MODUL 28 develops a platform for exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, public discussions, and interdisciplinary collaborations focused on the relationship between heritage, community, and the contemporary transformation of the built environment.

Founded in 2001, the Sibiu–Vâlcea Branch of the Order of Architects of Romania currently brings together more than 250 members and actively develops cultural, educational, and professional programs dedicated to architecture and the built environment.

Among its initiatives are the Architecture Biennale [arhitectura.6], the Open Houses program, which allows the public to visit significant buildings across the Sibiu and Vâlcea regions, and the FOR URBAN platform, dedicated to dialogue and engagement around urban development, heritage, and architectural culture.
