"Toaca" is a unique endeavor—one performance in three chapters—co-created by three Romanian choreographers. Reaching for grotesque masks, dance, folklore, music, and playing a traditional instrument, it brings together three distinct creative personalities, three original styles, and three contemporary perspectives on Romanian legacy and identity. It invites us on a journey through a country of contrasts, deconstructing rigid definitions of borders and nation, which we end in the space of a contemporary art museum, looking for Romanian-Polish connections. It bequeaths a symbolic and stereotype-evading portrait.
Experimental and daring, this performance is a tribute to folk heritage that transcends land borders and identity barriers.
