CONCERTUL MUZICII REPREZENTATIVE A MINISTERULUI APĂRĂRII NAȚIONALE

The Representative Band of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence holds a central position within Romania’s military music structures, being regarded as the benchmark ensemble of the Romanian Armed Forces due to its tradition, scope, and the high standard of its activities. Established on August 1, 1951, and currently coordinated by the Inspector General of Military Bands, Colonel Aurel Gheorghiță, alongside the Head of Music, Colonel Marius Șerbănescu, and conductors Captains Geanin Picu and Daniel Metea, the orchestra operates in a framework where military discipline and artistic expression naturally complement each other, defined by professionalism and the elegance of the military uniform.

Its constant presence at official ceremonies, parades, and military events is complemented by an extensive concert activity on some of the country’s most prestigious stages, such as the Romanian Athenaeum, the National Opera, the “Mihail Jora” Concert Studio of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, and the Palace Hall. Internationally, the orchestra has participated in numerous festivals and professional events, performing in cities such as Paris, Madrid, Oslo, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Bern, and Beijing, thereby contributing to the representation of Romanian military music in a diverse and competitive cultural environment.

Its repertoire, comprising over 2.000 musical works, reflects a broad stylistic diversity, ranging from marches and patriotic pieces or folk arrangements to works from the universal musical repertoire, adapted to the specific character of a wind orchestra. Concert programs aim to maintain a balance between tradition and artistic openness, integrating classical and romantic works alongside jazz, film music, and contemporary compositions.

Through the continuity and consistency of its activity, the Representative Band of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence plays an essential role both in representing the Romanian Armed Forces and in promoting Romanian military music on the national and international cultural stage.
