At the heart of Franz Kafka’s novella lies the image of a man who wakes up one morning transformed into an insect. Without explanation, without any possibility of returning to what he once was.
The performance follows the way this transformation destabilizes the family universe of Gregor Samsa. Closeness and rejection, compassion and helplessness, care and exhaustion begin to coexist within an increasingly fragile space.
In Yuri Kordonsky’s interpretation, the metamorphosis becomes not only the transformation of a single body, but a slow shift in all the relationships surrounding him. The grotesque and the fragile, tenderness and cruelty, exist side by side, as the performance explores the limits of empathy and the fragility of human identity.
An unsettling performance in which Franz Kafka’s universe becomes an exploration of fragility and alienation. Text by: Franz Kafka
