Fuga Lolelor is a pre-Christian ritual, which was intertwined in the medieval period with the life of the craft guilds. Nowadays performed annually in Agnita and Cincu, with different connotations, the common element is the ‘lola’, a masked character who chases away winter and evil spirits. The hemp costumes, covered in black-coloured textile patches, specifically painted masks, hemp tails, noisy noises and frightening whips make the lola a spectacular apparition, taken from legend. Lolele are complex characters, both frightening and funny at the same time. They are meant to unite in a common idea of friendship and merriment the people of the two communities and the associations of Agnita and Cincu, which are animated by the common ideal of preserving a very special custom.
