“Foot and Leg Factory” by Sermet Çağan is a dark satire about manipulation and control. In a prosperous land ruled by overlords, citizens live well on abundant wheat. But the rulers seeking profit from their stockpile of worthless “black seeds,” trick the people into trading away their wheat. Eating the seeds causes paralysis and the state offers a grotesque solution: a factory selling artificial feet and legs. The play exposes how authoritarian systems sell false solutions and exploit suffering. It’s a chilling reflection on power, greed, and the cost of compliance in a manipulated society.
