In the original story, “The Prospectors” is set in 1920’s America and tells of two women - sex workers and confidants- who live at the margins, pickpocketing lavish partygoers for a little cash. The opening of a new ski lodge out west has brought rich men far and wide, and the women have planned what they believe will be the heist of their lives, an operation they have run a thousand times before. After they take the wrong chairlift up the mountain, they realize this lodge may not be what they think: the men they plan on stealing from are dead. dead. dead. dead. dead. The chair lift won’t come back up the mountain until dawn. The girls are trapped with the dead men until then, and reality is slipping out of their grip. How will they make it through the night? This ghost story is about the hunger for safety, for warmth, and for a life humans deserve. A story of resilience and an ode to debt, karmic or otherwise.
In the original story, “We Men Of Science” tells the epic of one scientist split into two bodies across parallel universes. When the men receive word that their wife has died, they spiral, grasping for control through the only language they know how: science. Revisiting a past invention, they attempt the impossible: to bring her back. When they unexpectedly encounter one another across universes, they join forces, conducting experiments on the habits of these worlds in an attempt to understand, and reverse, what has been lost. But as logic fails them, desperation takes over. Their methods grow reckless, their grief uncontained, and their actions begin to unravel the very fabric of their realities. As the worlds around them collapse, the men are faced with a final choice: continue their doomed pursuit, or surrender and face their grief - if it's not too late. A story of grief, inter-dimensional rupture, and the dangerous lengths we go to defy the irreversible: even at the cost of the entire world.
