Sibiu, 21 June 2025 – On Friday, the 32nd edition of the Sibiu International Theatre started, taking place between 20 and 29 June. A sold-out concert was scheduled as the official opening, by Alexandru Tomescu and Dragoș Ilie within the Stradivarius International tour. In the crowded cathedral, the President of FITS, Constantin Chiriac, talked about the joy of the opening of the Festival, about the efforts being made to organize this edition and about the reverence that the FITS team is sending through this year’s theme – THANK YOU.
Several other speeches followed by: Astrid Fodor – mayor of Sibiu, Emil Hurezeanu – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramona Chiriac - Head of the European Commission Representation in Romania and Raluca Turcan, member of the Chamber of Deputies in the Parliament of Romania, for the Sibiu constituency.
During the first day, the audience was invited to No yoghurt for the dead directed by the famous director Tiago Rodrigues, director of the Avignon Theatre Festival. The performance of the Belgian company NTGent is inspired by a true story about the father of the director.
Chirița in concert in Chișinău, directed by Adei Milea, a performance coming straight from the capital of Moldova, delighted the audience at Filarmonica de Stat. A comedy that intelligently exposes the morals of past and present.
The performance Flamenco Fusion by Spanish Flamenco Ballet performed yesterday as well, a unique and captivating theatrical experience that combines the passion and talent of Spanish and flamenco dance with the freshness and innovation of jazz.
The dream of Ymir invited the audience in the Big Square on a journey going through five dream stages, with high-altitude acrobatics and live music.
The concert by Hungarian Royal Gypsy Orchestra followed, heating up the atmosphere with rhythms that combine classical orchestral works with Hungarian folk music pieces.
The end of the first day of the festival was marked by a nocturnal drone show, concluded by a great and sincere Mulțumesc / Thank you, in the Theatre Square.
