Book Launch: New Stages Southeast
NEW STAGES SOUTH EAST is a project of Goethe-Institut, launched in 2021 to encourage and support the creation of contemporary dramatic texts on current and pressing issues, but also to bring together young voices, grounded in the realities of the society we live in, and to promote them on theatre stages in South East Europe and Germany. More than 30 authors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Romania and Serbia had the opportunity to work in workshops with renowned playwrights and directors from the seven participating countries and Germany, and to develop powerful plays that reflect the concerns, fears and interhuman relations of the contemporary world.
The e-book includes short presentations of the young playwrights involved in the project, a synopsis of the resulting texts, as well as different perspectives on New Stages South East.
The e-book launch is the continuation of a longer partnership between Sibiu International Theatre Festival and Goethe-Institut Bucharest. Within the anniversary edition in 2023, four of the new plays that emerged from this international project were included in the Anthology of the festival, and were presented in the staged readings section.
