This colourful ballet tries to keep intact the essence of African art, its colours, forms, simplicity, and absence of merely decorative elements – all agree to draw a playful and fascinating landscape to convey the pleasure and joy of living. All the masks are original designs by Masters Ballet, as is the choreography, which is inspired by traditional Burundian dances, and music is composed by the percussion group Bakutem, Chechu Obrer. The masks, in addition to being elements of great ornamental beauty, are a symbol of spiritual protection, with a strong religious charge that drives away the spirits of ancestors and lost souls.
