Dance Workshop: From the floor to yourself and back
Yulia Mezhetskaya - The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance
Israel

Every body has a home base of movement. Our experience, whether it is in daily life or dancing, influences our movement and leaves the usual paths along which we walk here or there, not always realizing it.
During the workshop we will search our personal movement habits and learn our pleasant way to interact with the floor and with each other. Workshop is based on knowledge from several areas that I have worked in depth, such as partnering, floorwork, martial arts, kinesiology and improvisation.
The class begins by memorizing the basics of how the joints of the body work. Then we move on to explore the principles of the body's interaction with the floor, understanding each trajectory of motion. We will search for different possibilities to release, to feel the gravity and resist it. The main idea is to find effective ways to use the floor in the dance, alone or with each other, and move familiar and smoothly in space. To explore our «blind spots» in individual work as well as in pairs.
