The physical experience - in its various and interdisciplinary senses - occupied me from the very beginning of my choreographic path; that is, any aesthetic phenomenon, whether vocal, movement, visual and more, including phenomena that are not originally physical but social, emotional, communal, literate, is a potential part of my project. Every phenomenon, not just traditionally recognized media such as music or video, when combined with dance, is relevant to the field of physical-sensory experience.
In the workshop we will understand together the subtle connections between the body and the elements of basic communication between people.
Ronen Izhaki is a choreographer and the Head of the bachelor's degree programs in dance at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
Holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, in cooperation with Hebrew University. As a choreographer, he works with Tammy Izhaki, his partner in art and in life. Their works have been shown throughout Israel and around the world, starting in 2002. He taught at the Theater and Dance department at the Kibbutz Seminar, as well as at the Theater department at the Hebrew University.
In his work, Ronen investigates movement and sensory processes in order to produce meaningful performances on stage that play in the space between the abstract and the concrete, and that create a physical and non-verbal narrative.
Since 2008, Ronen promotes multicultural discourse, together with others artist, in order to create contemporary art that offers a new narrative within the world of Israeli reality. The new narrative challenges the established and accepted boundaries between the sectors of Israeli society and is an opportunity for a cultural meeting point between these sectors.
