Futur4
Performance by: Helgard Haug & Daniel Wetzel
Rimini-Protokoll

The protagonist of this documentary science-fiction play, a Transylvanian Saxon, was bought out of Romania by West Germany in the 1970s. Back then, the future seemed nothing but bright. 50 years and many turning points later, she engages on stage in a dialog with different simulations of herself – constructed by A.I. on the basis of private and historical data. Patterns of the past are extrapolated into ever new futures, questioning expectations and possibilities alike. As memories are rewritten in real-time, the piece examines identity, freedom, and life as an evolving narrative.

Rimini-Protokoll's theater is certainly a milestone of contemporary theatre, but also a way to understand the future of performing arts.
