People Power Partnership (PPP)

„People Power Partnership” is a participatory theatre project in public space, which enables real and sustainable encounters between young people in an artistic context. In the course of the project, 104 young adults (aged 18 to 25) from the partner cities develop 13 site-specific productions and one main performance, which will then go on tour to all 11 partner cities and to other interested festivals. „People Power Partnership” lasts until October 14th, 2024.
In the first phase, 8 participants that were previously selected after attending a workshop, will travel each to a different twin city, where they will work together on a production for public space, for two weeks, with other 8 young adults from that city. This will be performed as part of a theatre festival. The themes of these plays will be developed for the public space and should consciously focus on socially relevant topics. In doing so, the young adults become authors themselves, i.e. they contribute to the productions with themes from their personal lives, which relate to questions of society, ecology, etc. As a unifying form of expression, hip-hop as an urban culture serves both as a physical movement content and as a musical realisation. This whole process that the participants go through is supported by the creative team.

In the second stage of the project, the participants develop a main production in Freiburg, in groups of 8 people from four twin cities each, which builds on the first 13 productions. After the world premiere in Freiburg, they will present this production in various group constellations at all partner festivals. The production is designed for a tour, so that it can be shown internationally after the end of the project.

In addition, the partners support the exchange between the participants with intensive periods of work and the systematic examination of their concrete audience development strategies and participation activities within the project. This will be accompanied by the Freiburg University of Education (PH) with scientific evaluation and publication.
