Rimas Tuminas (1952-2024) was one of the most appreciated European theatre directors. He was laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and of the National Prize of Lithuania. Holder of the Order of Friendship. Rimas Tuminas has produced over 25 performances in Russia and in Europe and conducted workshops on the art of directing. In 1990, Rimas Tuminas founded Maly Theatre of Vilnius, Lithuania, and in 2007 became the artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theatre. Under his leadership, the theatre has developed into one of the most prominent theatre companies touring all over the world. Major performances staged by the Maestro at the Vakhtangov Theatre are Uncle Vanya, by Anton Chekhov, The Masquerade, by Mikhail Lermontov, The Wind in the Poplars, by Gerald Sibleyras, The Haven (based on different authors), Eugene Onegin, by Alexander Pushkin, Smile to us, O Lord by Grigory Kanovicius, Minetti, by Thomas Bernhard, Oedipus Rex by Sophocles.
