Ierbar directed by Radu Afrim, Nijinski - Agony and Ecstasy with Răzvan Mazilu and Flamenco fusion have been added to the FITS 2025 programme for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June and will replace the dance performances which should have been held by the Israeli companies Vertigo Dance Company and Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Sibiu.
The three performances will begin at the same hours as the cancelled shows were originally scheduled, so that the public does not have to change their plans.
“Dear spectators,
We promised that we would be back with a solution. The night is a good adviser when we use it wisely.
We managed to convince the Spanish Flamenco Balet company, with their shows on the 20th and 21st of June being sold-out, to give one more performance for the Festival spectators on the 22nd of June, from 9 PM. We invite you to see “Flamenco fusion”, a show which was sold out in just a few hours. We are convinced that you will fuse with the energy of this marvellous company and with the joy of dance and unleashed music.
We managed to convince one of the most important choreographers and ballet dancers in Romania to join us with the “Nijinski - Agony and Ecstasy” performance of Odeon Theatre. It is a performance we could not take into account for the selection because we put tickets on sale before its premiere. Considering that Răzvan Mazilu has come to Sibiu over the years with some of the most special dance and musical performances, we look forward to a new joy from him as he plays Nijinski. Come to see him on the 23rd of June, at 5 PM, at Centrul Cultural Ion Besoiu.
Radu Afrim’s performance was among the first ones which sold-out on the first day. I immediately contacted him, he is in Sfântu-Gheorghe and he told me that his only reason to feel sad is that he did not manage to bring “Ierbar” to Sibiu. We are now able to bring it to Sibiu, on Wednesday, 24th of June, from 9 PM.
Dear spectators, you are our reason for being and for you, we manage to bring performances you deserve. We are looking forward to seeing you and we say a big THANK YOU to you and to the artists who immediately answered and help spectators enjoy, as usually, the Miracle of Sibiu.” declared the Festival President, Constantin Chiriac.
Ierbar, directed by Radu Afrim, a performance based on the Cartea plantelor și animalelor book (The book of Plants and Animals) by Simona Popescu, premiered in 2023 and it is a production of “Liviu Rebreanu” National Theatre in Târgu Mureș.
Ierbar is poetry in pictures about time passing and the ways in which characters of different ages confront the condition of ephemeral beings who feel, dream, suffer and love, closely connected to nature.
Nijinski – Agony and ecstasy is a choreographic performance by Arcadie Rusu, with Răzvan Mazilu, exploring the genius and inner turmoil of the legendary Vaslav Nijinski, one of the most enigmatic dancers of the 20th century. Through expressive moves, re-imagined classical music and oneiric projects, it creates a surrealist picture, where boundaries between dream, memory and madness disappear.
The performance retraces the journey from the artistic peak to the mental collapse. Dance becomes a portal to the delirium of an artist who defies the limits of body and reality.
Flamenco fusion is a show of the Spanish Flamenco Balet, directed by Iván Gómez. The first two performances, taking place on the 20th and 21st of June, are already sold-out. The performance on the 22nd of June will begin at 9 PM, at Centrul Cultural Ion Besoiu.
Flamenco fusion proposes a unique and exciting theatre experience which combines the passion and the talent in the Spanish dance and in flamenco with the freshness and innovation in jazz. This production not only demonstrates the evolution of these artistic styles in the 21st century but also opens new ways to creativity and expression in the dance and music world. An essential production for lovers of art and culture.
Tickets for the 3 shows have been put on sale on sibfest.ro website and at the TNRS Theatre Agency, located on Nicolae Balcescu street.
