The Scarlet Princess

Directed by: Silviu Purcărete

“The Scarlet Princess” is based on an original script written by Silviu Purcărete and adapted from the kabuki theatre play by Tsuruya Nanboku the 4th. Inspired by this tradition, the director aims to create a European performance using the text, the rules and the space of kabuki, elements that have been loosely reinterpreted. Condemned to an impossible love, the abbot Seigen and his disciple Shiragiku decide to commit suicide. The young man dies, but the abbot survives. Seventeen years later, Seigen recognizes in Princess Sakura the reincarnation of Shiragiku and falls in love again. The performance has plenty of stories of obsessive love, murders, reincarnation and revenge, building with humor and self-irony a bubbly commentary on the dialogue between the European and the Japanese culture.
