Curated on the occasion of the Japanese Emperor’s Birthday, the exhibition entitled Journey to the world of Meiji prints and the printed album represent a premiere in the Romanian and Eastern-European cultural sphere by organizing an exhibition of Japanese prints from the Meiji period which integrally cover the historical theme, the emperor, theatre, bijin-ga as well as landscapes. Compared to the small number of exhibitions of Meiji era prints organized until the present moment, which tended to focus on a single theme, for example Bijin-ga or one single artist, the exhibition and album from the private collection of George Șerban represent a complete incursion into the world of Japanese prints of the Meiji era. With the help of these prints one can trace the evolution of Japan from tradition to modernity, visible above all in the manner of dress, posture, edifices, public buildings, the writing of the Constitution, etc.
An event organized in partnership with the Japanese Embassy in Romania. Tickets are also available at the entranceClosing event exhibition: 25.06.2022 at 17:00
