The complete program of FITS 2024 is now available!

Sibiu, May 30, 2024 – Today, at the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre, the second press conference for the 2024 edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) took place.

The host of the conference was Constantin Chiriac, President of FITS and General Director of the National Theatre in Sibiu (TNRS), who presented the latest information regarding this year’s Festival, including the series of special events that complement the program.

FITS is held in Sibiu from June 21 to June 30, and the theme of this 31st edition is “FRIENDSHIP.”

Constantin Chiriac reviewed the most important special events and expressed gratitude to the partners and all institutions involved, without whom such a complex edition would not have been possible.

“This is an unprecedented edition. It was hard for me to believe that we could surpass an anniversary edition like last year’s. Perhaps Friendship brought together so many important names, from John Malkovich to Pippo Delbono, from Tim Robbins to Sasha Waltz, from Mikhail Baryshnikov to Isabelle Adjani, from Neil LaBute to Jan Fabre. There are still so many more we haven’t mentioned, so we invite the audience to explore the program on our website and in the FITS app, and to follow all our communication channels, as we strive to adapt our message on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, or the FITS blog,” declared FITS President Constantin Chiriac.

During the event, journalists present in the hall and the online audience who followed the conference on Facebook and YouTube were able to listen to messages from the President of Romania, the Prime Minister, the Mayor of Sibiu, the President of the Senate, the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), the President of the Sibiu County Council (CJ Sibiu), as well as messages from the French Ambassador, the Director of the French Institute in Romania, the German Ambassador, the cultural attaché of the U.S. Embassy, the Undersecretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Culture, and the Director of the Adam Mickiewicz Polish Institute, among others.

Constantin Chiriac also spoke about the other sections whose programs are now available on the Festival’s website (sibfest.ro): Readings (7 scheduled events), Press Conferences and Special Conferences (22 events), Exhibitions (191 events), the Visual Arts Platform (PAV), Therme Forum, Book Launches (22 events), and more, all eagerly awaited by the public.

Up to this point, FITS has 830 events included in the program and expects over 5,000 artists from 82 countries.

Among the novelties this year is a structural change for the Performing Arts Market, an event associated with FITS, which serves as a platform for dialogue between young artists, cultural operators, performing arts institutions, and cultural networks.

This year’s edition will also feature a rich French season, celebrating the 100 years of the French Institute in Romania, as well as an extensive Polish season, offering a preview of the Romania-Poland Cultural Season 2024-2025.

The FITS app currently includes all the scheduled events for this year’s edition and allows for program customization and many other features. The FITS app can be downloaded for free on both Google Play (for Android) and the AppStore (for iOS).

We will provide further details about each special section within FITS in upcoming announcements.
