For three days, the Open Market for Performances gathers in Sibiu artists from Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America to present, promote and sell the latest creations in the field of performing arts (theatre, dance and music). The Open Market participants are provided with individual or shared presentation stands, equipped with facilities according to the request and need and the featured companies are also presented in the Open Market booklet.
The Open Market Catalogue will gather Romanian culture institutions, presenting their artistic offer and also contact details, in order to make possible a better collaboration and, at the same time, to offer the Romanian and foreign audience and artists a glimpse into the cultural projects / programmes of various theatres, companies, unions and production companies.
The Open Market is thus conceived as a commercial exhibition where each producer (company, cultural institution, theatre school, booking agencies, media) presents the performance offer and establishes beneficial collaborations for the mobility of real cultural values.
Objectives of the Open Market:
> Initiating and developing new cultural cooperation relationships, with emphasis on the performing arts, between Romanian and representatives of the invited countries
> Promoting cultural values and Romanian artists.
> Promoting cultural specificity of the invited countries.
> Creating a training base for a communication boosting of the cultural product management between Romanian and foreign cultural operators and financing institutions / instruments.
The Open Market in Sibiu has become an event with great impact for the national and international culture for the past 12 years. Thanks to this international credibility, Sibiu has become a market where creators and distributors can develop mobility programmes for artists and cultural products, the free market laws.
Winner Stands of the Open Market for Performances 2009:
- 1st Place: Hungarian State Theatre "Csiky Gergely" Timisoara
- 2nd Place: Ansamblul Folcloric Profesionist "Cindrelul - Junii Sibiului"
- 3rd Place: "Forever Dance" Dance School
Best Open Market 2009 Performance: "Amor Omnia", script and direction by Peter Pashov & Zheni Pashova, a production of the Hungarian State Theatre "Csiky Gergely" Timisoara, is invited in the official programme of the SITF 2010.
The Open Market of Performances 2010 awards the Most Original Stand and the Best Performance. The award for the Best Performance implies an official invitation of participation for the 2011 edition of the Sibiu International Theater Festival.
